Would you like to learn more about McCarthy Beach State Park? How are your hunting skills? The park scavenger hunt is back by popular demand! Meet at the Picnic shelter at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 21st to pick up a list of questions. Bring your completed list back by 4 p.m. and receive a nature poster or small prize. Fun for all ages!

On Friday, August 27th, join local resident Emily Borra for a night of music in the park. Emily is a music major specializing in the French horn. Several of her friends will be joining her with a variety of instruments. Enjoy selections from classical, bluegrass, and other musical styles. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the picnic shelter.

Both of these programs are free, as is park admission for those who walk or bicycle in. Vehicle permits are $5 per day or $25 for an annual permit good at all MN State Parks for a full year.

A pedal boat is now available to rent, along with canoes, kayaks, and rowboats. This pontoon-style pedal boat has been a popular addition to the rental fleet. Some folks are using it to go out fishing, while others just enjoy cruising along the shoreline.

Camping reservations can be made up to a year in advance by calling 1-866-857-2757 or on line at www.stayatmnparks.com. The reservation season ends September 25th, but the campgrounds will remain open on a first-come, first-served basis until the snow flies.

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until August 22rd, with shorter hours until Labor Day. Park hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. year-around. Please call 254-7979 for more park information. DNR and park information can be found on line at www.mndnr.gov.
